Directorate overview

This position is in the Vinnies Services directorate and is part of the Community Inclusion team that is responsible for state-wide management of excellent community inclusion services, including disability services.

The Role

The Client Engagement Officer will provide direct support to and meet the needs of people we assist at Pete's Place, a drop in centre for people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. Pete's Place offers shower and toilet facilities, breakfast provision, free community laundry, advocacy, advice and referrals, and specialist outreach services. Being able to provide a safe, welcoming and respectful environment to people we assist is of paramount importance to this role. The role will work closely with the Coordinator as well as with volunteers at the site.

The Client Engagement Officer is responsible for:

  • Providing a variety of support including case work, referral, advocacy and transport as required
  • Assisting in delivering client activities
  • Maintaining accurate client records and case notes

This Client Engagement Officer will report to the Manager, Inclusion NE/NW. You can find more information on the role's accountabilities and responsibilities in the the attached Position Description.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Appropriate Certificate or working towards / or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues relating to homelessness including but not limited to family breakdown, mental illness, drug, alcohol and gambling addictions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to use sound judgement and act appropriately in crisis and emergency situations.
  • A commitment to maintain an ethical, yet non-judgmental, attitude towards clients, volunteers and staff.
  • Ability to use client data base and Microsoft Office packages such as Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Sound knowledge of WH&S legislation as it relates to the workplace.
  • Sound knowledge of child safe practices, legislation and standards
  • NSW Drivers Licence
