The St Vincent de Paul Society is a leading provider of community support services, whose mission  it is to shape a more just and compassionate society.

The Role:

The Case Worker will provide support to people accessing Vinnies homelessness and housing services including undertaking casework with homeless people and/or persons in danger of becoming homeless.

Your responsibilities:

  • conducting initial intakes and assessments and providing crisis intervention where appropriate
  • Working closely with the client to develop case plans that include ongoing support, review, and follow up; crisis intervention as required
  • referring clients to appropriate external services such as those that provide life skill and educational programs
  • providing crisis intervention where appropriate
  • Supporting and assisting clients in a way that promotes independence, empowerment and prevents a return to homelessness
  • undertaking home visits, advocating on behalf of the clients where required, and supervising client activities
  • maintaining accurate and up-to-date client records and case notes.

This role will report to the Manager Homelessness and Housing.

To be successful, you will need:

  • Minimum TAFE Certificate IV or currently undertaking tertiary study, in welfare or related field
  • Previous experience providing support to marginalised and vulnerable people support to homeless persons
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of issues relating to homelessness including domestic violence, family breakdown, mental illness, drug, alcohol, gambling addictions and also awareness of appropriate local community support services for homeless clients.
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills & sound computer skills
  • Ability to use sound judgement and act appropriately in crisis and emergency situations
  • NSW driver licence - flexibility to travel to meet clients needs.
  • It is a condition of employment that you comply with the Society's Pandemic Policy - COVID-19 and Public Health Orders in order to work in or enter Society facilities, noting that all staff working in our aged care and disability services require a booster. In accordance with our policy, you will be required to provide evidence of your vaccination status or a valid medical exemption as part of the resourcing process
