Board Member - Treasurer (Voluntary)

We currently have volunteer opportunities to join the St John’s Youth Services Board and make a positive difference for young people experiencing homelessness in South Australia.

Utilise your skills and experience to contribute to the leadership of a fantastic SA community organisation, and be part of a committed team guiding St John’s Youth Services’ strategic development.

As a voluntary board member your main role will be to consider, debate and vote on issues before the Board on the basis of the best interests of the organisation. From time to time, you may be asked to serve on Board committees as requested and/or desired.

TREASURER

The Treasurer shares responsibility and decision-making with other members of the Board and it is therefore an important part of the Treasurer’s role to ensure that other Board members understand the financial information being presented, the strategic implications of this information.

The Treasurer will:

  • Support the financial affairs of the organisation and ensure they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice.
  • Ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures are in place.
  • Monitor and report on the financial health of the organisation.
  • Direct the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts, and audits.
  • Work closely with the CEO and Accountant on practical financial management issues.
  • Make fellow committee members aware of their financial obligations and take a lead in interpreting financial data to them.
  • Regularly report the financial position at committee meetings (balance sheet, cash flow, etc).
  • Collaborate on the production of an annual budget and propose its adoption at the last meeting of the previous financial year.
  • Ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures and controls are in place.
  • Appraise the financial viability of plans, proposals, and feasibility studies.
  • Lead on appointing and liaising with auditors.

The Treasurer role is suitable for an accountant with senior manager, director, partner, Chief Financial Officer or Financial Controller experience. Prior experience on a non-profit Board or regular provision of reports to a non-profit Board is preferred.
