About the Opportunity  

As a result of St John consolidating its position as a premium provider of First Aid training and growing its Mental Health & Well-being and Workplace Health & Safety training portfolios, a casual trainer & assessor is required to deliver training, conduct assessments and provide related services. This Gold Coast based role complements the wider network of St John trainers who deliver a range of training services across Queensland. 

About the Role

  • Primarily focused on First Aid training but ability to deliver Mental Health and WHS training is desirable - accredited and non-accredited 
  • Deliver accredited and non-accredited training to public and industry clients, primarily in the Gold Coast region but some regional travel may be required
  • Set up (including all relevant resources) and deliver training courses to a professional standard
  • Maintain accurate training and assessment records
  • Support students with their learning and help them identify additional learning needs and opportunities
  • Training is delivered in various public access venues in Coomera, Southport, Ashmore, Robina and Tallebudgera, but  also on-site in corporate workplaces 

About You

  • A current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116) (or equivalent) is mandatory plus current knowledge, skills and experience in VET sector is required 
  • First Aid qualifications to deliver St John training courses (or relevant industry background and ability to quickly obtain) - hold HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and HLTAID003 Provide First Aid at minimum, but ability to deliver LVR, Advanced First Aid, Advanced Resuscitation, Occupational, and Education & Care courses are a definite advantage 
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of first aid or a higher clinical skill set, and experience in delivering first aid training
  • A willingness to engage in continued professional development
  • Current Drivers Licence
  • National Police Check (or ability to obtain)
  • Exceptional communication skills

While not essential, it is advantageous if you have one or more of the following:

  • experience in the mental health sector, either professionally or as a volunteer, plus knowledge and understanding of mental health and mental illness 
  • accreditation with MHFA Australia and hold or are working towards a qualification in mental health
  • practical knowledge, skills and experience in Work Health & Safety and hold or working towards a qualification in WH&S

Conditions of Employment

  • Working hours are variable, and while training is mainly delivered during office hours Monday to Friday, courses may be delivered in evenings or on weekends as required
  • While training is mainly conducted in St John premises, trainers will require their own reliable vehicle to travel to and carry training equipment and resources to other training venues and client premises on the Gold Coast (transport for out of town locations is provided)
  • Remuneration includes competitive hourly and day-rate and superannuation
