Sales Assistant

Stile Education

Over the last 12 months, we have been living through what will be the most historic global event since the Second World War. It’s scary, it’s confusing - especially for our youngest citizens - and misinformation is rife. It is more important than ever that our schools are armed with the tools, resources and training they need to guide our students. Not just to understand the facts of this pandemic, though that is of course important, but how to stop and critically evaluate those facts for themselves.

Stile creates world-class teaching and learning resources for science that are designed to engage students in real-world science and help them build the skills they’ll need to thrive. Today, almost half a million Australian students and their teachers use Stile in science.

To get a bit of a feel for what we do, check out our latest lesson on the influence of social media.

We’re expanding our Melbourne-based team to include a passionate, efficient and adaptable Sales Assistant. Reporting to the Head of Sales and Success, this new addition is designed to make Stile’s sales and marketing teams even more effective, ultimately ensuring that we’re supporting our community of schools as best as we possibly can.

This role is initially intended as four days per week, with a possibility of moving to full-time.

We’re looking for an adaptable hard-worker. Someone who is a great communicator with an exceptional eye for detail. Someone who is a team player, but happy to take ownership of individual projects too. Someone who is incredibly organised and always looking for efficiencies in their work.

Ultimately, someone who just loves getting stuff done.

It sounds like a lot, but you’ll be well-supported every step of the way – your manager and your new, friendly colleagues will teach you everything you need to know! You’ll have flexibility around your working hours and have agency over how you organise your time.

Sound interesting?

If so, please read on below to find out more about what’s in it for you, and to read about responsibilities of the role in further detail.

The Details

What’s in it for you:

  • You’ll join an amazing 50-strong team of educators, scientists, artists, administrators and engineers. Specifically, you’ll be joining our Sales and Success Team which is made up of mostly-teachers based in Melbourne, with some dotted around Australia and NZ. Imagine a workplace where everyone genuinely cares about, and is working towards, improving scientific literacy amongst our young citizens. We hold ourselves, and each other, to a high standard and love what we do.
  • You’ll be extremely well supported. We value our people, and it’s important to us that they’re happy. We have strong management and feedback frameworks, an Employee Assistance Program and a progressive parental leave policy.
  • Flexibility. We expect that you work hard, but you’ll have flexible hours and you’re the master of your own schedule. Whilst we will require the Sales Assistant to be in the office most days, there may be some potential to work from home over time.
  • A fantastic office environment. Our beautiful, brand new office, ‘Stile HQ’, is based in Melbourne city, surrounded by great cafes and parks. Walking around Stile HQ you’ll find a fully-stocked kitchen, a film studio, a ‘quiet’ room, and you’ll almost certainly find someone up for a chat at the communal lunch table! We hold regular events and activities, the most notable in recent years being ‘Well-being week’, our annual snow trip and the inaugural Hackathon!
  • A Mac laptop and whatever else you need to be productive.

How you’ll spend your time

Coordinating events

Stile hosts many events for its teachers and for leaders in the STEM education community. The Sales Assistant will assist in the running and coordination of these events, which may include finding venues for hire, liaising with caterers, compiling gift bags etc.

Coordinating travel

Many Sales and Success team members travel domestically as part of their role. This is generally to visit schools they’re responsible for supporting or our inter-staters will return to Stile HQ for events and training. The Sales Assistant will assist with the booking of flights, accommodation and car hire where necessary.

Organising mailing tasks

We’re regularly sending out marketing, training or onboarding material to our schools in the post. Often this is en masse, and sometimes it is ad-hoc. The Sales Assistant will be responsible for coordinating these various mailing tasks, which includes mail-merging where necessary, quality checking how material is packaged, hand-writing notes and coordinating with couriers to ensure delivery.

Owning and maintaining the 'Stile Shop'

Stile has a shop where teachers can purchase training material and merchandise. The Sales Assistant will be responsible for fulfilling all orders placed through the Stile Shop, and owning the maintenance of the site. They’ll work closely with the Product team to ensure we have appropriate stock levels at all times, and to ensure the website is updated as required with new releases.

Assisting with the maintenance of reporting and records

The Sales Assistant will support the Sales and Success team with ensuring accurate records at all times. Tasks in this category will differ depending on the time of year, but it will include regular sales reports, checking that teacher details are up-to-date, and making sure that accounting records are correct.

Develop efficiencies and processes

While the Sales Assistant will be fully supported by their manager, it will be part of their core responsibility to spend time working out how the wider team can be increasingly efficient. This will include the development of processes and procedures that make their own job easier without compromising on quality.
