The Integrated Services Project has been developed in a partnership between Social Security Rights Victoria (SSRV) and Financial Counselling Victoria (FCVic). The project aims to improve client outcomes through strengthening understanding and working relationships between financial counsellors and specialist social security lawyers.

about the role

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic financial counsellor to join our team. As part of the Integrated Services Project the financial counsellor will provide direct client services and work collaboratively with others to address social security, financial and related issues. This position will also contribute to cross sector engagement work, professional and resource development and to identifying and responding the systemic issues.

The wage is linked to the Social Community Home Care and Disability ServicesIndustry Award 2021 Pay Tables, SACS Employee Level 5, Salary packing is available.

The successful applicant will:

  • Hold a Diploma of Financial Counselling (or equivalent) and be eligible for full membership of the Financial Counselling Victoria
  • Have 3 years+ experience as a financial counsellor.

and will demonstrate:

  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team to identify and address relevant financial, legal and related issues
  • Ability to conduct financial counselling triage, advice, casework and advocacy both by telephone and face to face
  • Ability to establish rapport and work effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds, who are experiencing stress, vulnerability and disadvantage, and who may have complex needs
  • Highly develop communication skills, including active listening, verbal and written communication, and ability to communicate complex information in a practical, accurate and clear manner
  • Experience in engaging with a range of stakeholders to support effective client outcomes and other project objectives.
  • That they are self-motivated, flexible and proactive, with strong organisational and time management skills, including the ability to manage competing demands, prioritise tasks and solve problems
  • Experience in report writing and contributing to monitoring and evaluation activities
  • Computer literacy, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets and electronic communication
