YOUR CONTRIBUTION

As the Senior People and Culture (P&C) Business Partner - Industrial and Employment Relations you will be a member of the People and Culture Business Partnering team and you will be responsible for providing professional advice, guidance and support to multiple business functions as a whole with the objective of minimising risk, educating stakeholders, and influencing decision making across SSI through the provision of your expert skills and knowledge.

You will provide legal advice on a range of employment law matters including: employment contracts, workplace agreements, employee performance, workplace health and safety and program restructures. As well as day to day employment law matters including complex and sensitive issues.

The position provides advice and P&C services to managers and staff across a broad range of P&C issues. This role is expected to partner with key stakeholders to develop appropriate solutions, and support the wider People and Culture function in decision making by providing expert advice to the team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with managers in dealing with performance and behavioural issues within business units
  • Reaching a positive outcome and performance/behaviour improvements through following company performance improvement management guidelines and policies
  • Provide advice and support to managers in respect of taking disciplinary action in terms of company discipline process and guidelines
  • ER/IR Management
  • Providing ER/IR support and advice to the business on a wide range of issues and queries
  • Providing contractual and legislative advice
  • Influence parties to achieve local level resolutions to workplace grievances to mitigate formal grievances and disputes
  • Coaching managers on interpreting legislative responsibility
  • Coaching managers on policy, procedure and best practice
  • Facilitate mediation between employees seeking informal grievance resolution
  • Support and advise where People & Culture involvement is required during terminations and dismissals (generally following performance management process)
  • Development, review and interpretation of company People & Culture policies

ABOUT YOU

You have a tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Employment Law. You have significant experience working in employment law, workplace relations or employee relations. You will also be required to have a strong understanding of Employment Relations/Industrial Relations and detailed knowledge of employment legislation and National Employment Standard.
