ABOUT MULTICULTURAL CHILD AND FAMILY PROGRAM (MCFP)

The Multicultural Child and Family Program provides a range of services to assist children and young people who have been found to be in need of care and protection to meet their permanent care plan needs - safety, stability and wellbeing through a culturally aware and responsive lens.

The MCFP Program uses a client-centred, strengths-based, trauma-informed framework to guide its service delivery and facilitate sustainable and practical outcomes for children, young people, families and carers; working in partnership with member agencies and local ethnic and sector partners. Its cultural lens aims to link children and young people with a bilingual worker and/or carer and/or community based matched bilingual support worker.

The MCFP Program has contractual responsibilities with DCJ and regulatory responsibilities with the Office of the Children's Guardian (OCG).

YOUR CONTRIBUTION

The Family Preservation Manager substantively leads the delivery of the Family Preservation Program. This program works towards engaging children and families involved with Family and Community Services to create changes to risk factors and increased safety for children to remain at home with their families. Family Preservation Program aims to prevent or reduce out-of-home care placements for vulnerable children and young persons. As restoration has similar dynamics to family preservation, the family preservation manager will carry duties of assessing the pre-restoration matters, supporting children to return to families during restoration phase and support for children and families post restorations providing ongoing support monitoring and assessment.

Family Preservation Program provides timely, comprehensive, evidence-based assessments intensive, outreach interventions aimed at skill development for families with children up to 18 years of age. The Family

Preservation manager leads and monitors the implementation of evidence-based models to engage and build the capacity of parents from CALD backgrounds.

The key purpose of this position is to:

  • Ensure effective delivery of high-quality services to families referred
  • Lead and manage permanency caseworkers
  • Provide guidance and consultation on engaging families and community members
  • Collaborate and role model cultural responsive practices
  • Manage financial and material resources to support family action plans
  • Prepare reports on program delivery and outcomes as per contractual responsibility
  • Represent the program with key stakeholders including at the Children's Court and/or with DCJ as required

ABOUT YOU (Selection Criteria)

To be successful in this role you must have a minimum Tertiary qualification (Bachelor Degree) in Social Work, Psychology or other relevant Human Services area. It is also essential that you have:

  • Experience providing regular and ongoing supervision to staff which is maintained program model fidelity is holistic and allows for reflection, growth and development
  • Experience assessing and encouraging professional development opportunities for staff
  • Experience in working with children, their families and carers involved in the statutory child protection system
  • Experience in the delivery of evidence-informed therapeutic parenting programs
  • Experience in Family Group Conference, Mediation, and alternative dispute resolution
  • Practice skills in working with parents and families to address safety, care and well-being issues for all family members
  • Ability to conduct complex parenting capacity and risk assessments
