About the Multicultural Child and Family Program (MCFP)

SSI delivers a specialist culturally responsive permanency support program in Sydney with a satellite service in Newcastle. The Program's service models include family preservation, multicultural foster care, restoration and other out-of-home care services through a culturally responsive practice framework prioritising services for children and young people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds aged 0-18 years. The program is committed to keeping children and young people safe, in stable homes, connected to family, community and culture.

About the role and responsibilities

We take the assessment, recruitment and support of our foster carers seriously and at SSI we have our own dedicated team to provide support at the times they need it most. The intake and placement caseworker is a key role with central triage responsibility. The position is the first point of contact for the SSI PSP Program with key stakeholders including DCJ (Department of Communities and Justice).

Working within the Intake and Carer Services Team the position is integral in negotiating placement request and referrals, placement matching, carer recruitment screening and managing carer enquiries. The position is central to the functioning of our intake and compliance across the program; it maintains SSI carer probity data systems, monitors carer vacancies and carer profiles (including cultural matching elements). The position is responsible for receiving and coordinating the key case management transfers processes from DCJ and other agencies.

To succeed in this role; ideally you will have the following skills & experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, or related discipline;
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in NSW child protection/OOHC;
  • Understanding of and experience in the field of casework, training, PSP, child protection and Foster Care;
  • Solid understanding of Carer recruitment and enquiry as well as quality improvement and compliance processes;
  • Completing initial phase carer applications, probity checks and care register requirements;
  • Well-developed analytical & organisational skills coupled with excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Intermediate level MS office skills with excellent data reporting skills;
  • Ability to engage and work with groups of people, tailoring communication and activities to suit a culturally and linguistically diverse communities (CALD);
  • Be agile in response to DCJ and carer enquiries;
  • Valid NSW drivers' licence.
