ABOUT SSI

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of these lands and waters and we welcome the opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal people of Australia. We value relationships with our local Aboriginal community and appreciate applications from its members.

SSI is a community organisation and social business that supports newcomers and other Australians to achieve their full potential. We work with people with a refugee and asylum-seeking background, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, people with disability, youth and children and more to build capacity and enable them to overcome inequality.

SSI draws on its expertise and experience to advocate for the people and communities it serves. Through the work we do, we empower people to change their lives. Through our advocacy and representation, we influence ideas and policy.

ABOUT SSI ARTS AND CULTURE

SSI's Arts and Culture Program is inspired by the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to develop their creative potential and participate meaningfully in the cultural life of the community- no matter where they come from, what language they speak, or their level of ability. The Arts and Culture program delivers a number of innovative initiatives to accomplish this aim, including the New Beginnings Festival, community arts projects and creative workshops.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION

The Arts and Culture Project Officer supports the delivery of the Artist Development Program (ADP) which equips diverse artists from refugee and newly-arrived migrant backgrounds with the skills, support and mentorship needed for them to excel both artistically and professionally. The Artist Development Program is a 12-month project funded by the Australia Council for the Arts .

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and co-ordinate all logistics for the delivery of activities, workshops, meetings and showcase events included in the ADP plan, including project stakeholder engagement and liaison.
  • Develop the "Building the Artist" and Leadership workshop program schedule.
  • Organise and facilitate 1 on 1 monthly mentorship meetings.
  • Support the artists through the ADP and SSI Arts and Culture Program's existing Creative Pathways Program (CPP) to engage in internal and external events and opportunities.
  • Develop and implement pre and post program evaluation tools, including conducting surveys with artists and mentors and collecting feedback from attendees at final showcase events.
  • Provide monthly updates on program delivery.
  • Write a final program report at the conclusion of the project and assist with acquittal and internal report writing.

ABOUT YOU

Ideally you will have a relevant Bachelors degree, demonstrated experience delivering arts and culture projects in partnership/collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders as well as experience working with and supporting artists from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Experience working with artists and communities from refugee backgrounds would be an advantage.

You will need to have strong management skills, be able to build and maintain relevant networks in the arts and community sectors and liaise and engage with a range of stakeholders, including artists, staff, partners and the general public. What we would really love to see is commitment and passion for working with culturally and linguistically diverse artists and communities.
