YOUR CONTRIBUTION

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Specialist will support SSI to drive awareness, engagement, and inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures across the organisation, particularly from supplier, employment and community engagement perspectives.

Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Build relationships with local community organisations to help build engagement with Indigenous communities and support SSI's supplier and workforce diversity;
  • Work collaboratively with the Communications and Community Engagement teams to design and deliver community-based projects that foster intercultural dialogue;
  • Drive supplier diversity through sourcing Indigenous businesses which provide goods and services which may be relevant to SSI via Supply Nation and ORIC;
  • Understanding of how to create a culturally responsive work environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and how to design and implement systems, practices and processes that enable impactful services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities;
  • Work with People and Culture and program leaders to help build awareness and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures;
  • Identify and manage activities to help grow awareness and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures for our culturally diverse clients and communities;
  • Contribute to planning of and attend internal and external events to raise awareness and support inclusion for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and peoples;
  • Manage quarterly reporting to government on SSI's Indigenous engagement, procurement and workforce;
  • Working across multiple SSI offices and event locations will be required in this position.

ABOUT YOU

You will have a strong knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and peoples and the role organisations can play towards reconciliation. Prior experience in a similar role or in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. A deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and peoples, particularly around procurement, workforce, and community engagement.

Experience developing and/ or implementing a Reconciliation Action Plan would be highly regarded.
