Company Secretary (Volunteer) - Remote

Students for Sensible Drug Policy Australia
  • Volunteer, Secretary & Board Member, Remote/Work From Home
  • Unique opportunity to support innovative health policy advocacy
  • Remuneration: Honorary role

About the organisation:

Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP) Australia is an independent youth organisation advocating for drug policy reform. We build grassroots momentum for change in drug policy by connecting students and young people around Australia to a wide network of experts and policymakers.

SSDP Australia is part of a global network first established in the United States in 1998. Since 2016, SSDP Australia has fostered student societies at Universities and TAFEs, while coordinating advocacy at local, state, Commonwealth and United Nations levels. SSDP Australia's networks span grassroots activist communities, student unions, harm reduction and prevention services, community legal centres, research institutions, worker's unions and political parties - united by shared values of social justice, public health and the pursuit of meaningful youth participation.

SSDP Australia is a Company Limited by Guarantee and a registered Charity. Our Board of Directors provides governance and financial oversight, while our National Executive Committee supports and coordinates student leaders at affiliated University societies across Australia. After a challenging few years adapting to ongoing COVID restrictions, SSDP Australia emerges with more robust governance systems, strategic clarity and opportunities for expansion.

About the role:

We are seeking a Company Secretary to join our Board of Directors, ideally bringing governance and administrative experience. As a relatively new organisation, SSDP Australia Board Directors are encouraged to play an active role in organisational development. The ideal Company Secretary will support the expansion of a Secretariat of youth administrative officers to manage the organisation's regulatory compliance, record-keeping and relevant policies & procedures.

Board meetings are held online, on the final Tuesday of each month, in the evening. Board Directors are also expected to attend an in-person organisational planning day, at a date to be determined.
