People with spinal cord injury (SCI) face many challenges and secondary health complications, that can diminish quality of life and capacity for independence. Our mission is to support world class clinical research and clinical trials by working to overcome the well reported barriers in the research process, by building much needed tools for research collaboration and knowledge sharing, and actively involving people with spinal cord injury in the research process.

About the position

The SRI is seeking a person with lived experience of spinal cord injury (SCI) for the role of Consumer Engagement Lead. The Consumer Engagement Lead will act as SCI community liaison as we develop and deploy our Consumer Engagement Program, which seeks to actively engage people with lived experience of SCI in the research process. The Consumer Engagement Lead will create and deliver Program resources and activities and lead the establishment of a Consumer Advisory Network that will provide consumer perspectives to help inform Program development. The SRI is run by a small professional team and the ideal candidate will be self-motivated, proactive and able to work independently. The role is based at Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre, Kew, however staff are currently working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

About you

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a comparable role, working with community/consumer engagement.
  • Lived experience of spinal cord injury.
  • A strong connection to the SCI community.
  • Experience in creating and delivering program resources beneficial.
  • Knowledge of the SCI research environment beneficial.
  • Excellent communications skills, including public presentation skills.
  • Relationship building skills.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings in an effective manner.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and able to work independently.
  • Proficiency in office software (e.g. Microsoft Office, Gsuite). You have a functional workspace at home and laptop/PC with office software and active anti-virus software.
  • You have a passion for working in the not-for-profit sector and a strong belief in making a difference.
