South Pole is looking for a Consultant Carbon Markets to join the team at one of its offices in Australia (in Sydney or Melbourne). You will work on client mandates, assess project opportunities and carry out carbon market consultancy related work. You will have contact with carbon market clients and have a good understanding of the regulatory context of carbon markets in Australia. If you are someone that has a good understanding and overall knowledge of carbon products and markets, including project-based carbon standards, Greenhouse Gas accounting methodologies, technologies and project development processes, then we are looking for you!

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Support business development activities and be involved in writing compelling proposals and contract preparation, as a carbon market expert
  • Analyse client needs, gather market intelligence and identify industry trends
  • Advise and provide technical leadership on consulting mandates
  • Lead and draft/structure written proposals and final deliverables for the voluntary carbon market according to the clients expectation and needs
  • Coordinate with the projects and consultancy teams for necessary technical contents, data, calculations and analytics
  • Draft framework agreements for the acquisition of new emission reduction projects
  • Coordinate the offering process in terms of resources, content and timeline
  • Proactively share know-how and market feedback within the company
  • Participate in targeted client communication and joint marketing activities
  • Participate in client meetings, conferences and trade shows

Your profile

  • A University degree in a relevant field such as Environmental Management, Sustainability, or a broader field with evidence of a focus on environmental or sustainability issues in Engineering, Business/Management/Finance is preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience in environmental markets, particularly in carbon markets
  • Good understanding of carbon products and markets, including project-based carbon standards, technologies and project development processes
  • Experience working on tenders and complex offers to clients
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and practices from different (multicultural) backgrounds; understanding the dynamics working with different teams from different geographies
  • Experience working in international teams is an advantage
  • Demonstrated belief in and commitment to climate change mitigation and broader sustainability objectives
  • Excellent analytical skills including a high level of numeracy, competency with Excel and, as an advantage, financial literacy
  • Excellent written and oral command of English
  • Experience working with information management systems (CRM, accounting, databases, etc.) is preferred
  • National, or holder of a valid required work visa in Australia
