Sonder’s youth services portfolio includes over 130 mental health staff including a large team of clinical, provisional, generalist and Senior Psychologists. Sonder’s Youth services funded programs include headspace centres based at Edinburgh North, Adelaide (including the headspace Adelaide early psychosis program), Onkaparinga and Marion. These headspace centres (in conjunction with Consortium partners) deliver the 4 primary headspace streams including mental health, physical/sexual health, AOD and vocational needs. Sonder also is funded within its youth services portfolio to provide ‘emerge’ program services to young people aged 16-25 with more severe and complex needs.

Youth Services Psychology Registrar Program - Part-time to Fulltime (up to 37.5 hrs per week) Contract Position

Working Location: Positions available to be located at our headspace Edinburgh North, Adelaide, Marion & Onkaparinga Centres.

Thank you for your interest in applying for the Youth Services Pscyhology Registrar Program. The Psychologist (Clinical Registrar Program) will work across the Sonder youth services portfolio providing clinical psychological assessment and intervention services to young people aged 12-25. The Psychologist will further develop their existing clinical skills and capacity in working with an evidence based model that provides individual and group therapy for young people living with a diagnosed mental illness, whilst also having the opportunity to work closely with the other mental health teams within Sonder.

Psychologist – Clinical Registrar candidates will be responsible for:

  • Offering a comprehensive mental health assessment and delivering evidence based treatment interventions for individuals experiencing a range of mental health difficulties (such as anxiety, depression, substance dependence, psychosis, bipolar disorder and borderline and other personality disorders) and within group programs
  • Liaising and consulting with other professional employees as well as external community services
  • Consulting on mental health programs and policies and practices
  • Participating in individual supervision, professional development and attendance at team meetings/clinical reviews

Please note that this Registrar program is only for those Psychologists who have completed a Master of Psychology (Clinical) post graduate degree in the previous 2 year period and are now requiring 2 years post graduate supervision and experience to achieve relevant Clinical endorsement as a Psychologist.

Across the 2 year period program candidates will successfully complete psychological practice (3,000 hours), supervision with a Board approved supervisor (80 hours) and continuing professional development (CPD) (80 hours).

At the completion of the program, Registrars should ideally be able to demonstrate that the competencies relevant to the area of practice have been met. The practice competencies include:

  1. Knowledge of the discipline
  2. Ethical, legal and professional matters
  3. Psychological assessment and measurement
  4. Intervention strategies
  5. Research and evaluation
  6. Communication and interpersonal relationships
  7. Working with people from diverse groups, and
  8. Practice across the lifespan.
