Thank you for your interest in applying for the position of Functional Recovery Worker within our emerge Youth Mental Health Program, based at our headspace Onkaparinga Centre.

The emerge service facilitates excellence in mental health service delivery to achieve improved outcomes for young people aged 16-25. The unit shall be responsible for the provision of Mental Health Clinical Care, Care Coordination, Peer Support and Functional Recovery to young people who have, or are at risk of having, severe mental illness and with complex support needs. Direct delivery of mental health services is an integral component of this role.

Functional Recovery Worker will work as part of the emerge Service. As part of the emerge multi-disciplinary team, Functional Recovery Worker assists with the scoping and development of psychosocial group programs and other supports for young people with complex mental health conditions.

The Functional Recovery Worker shall:

  • Promote functional recovery for consumers of the emerge service
  • Reduce impact of mental illness on the developmental trajectory of the young person (social, educational, vocational)
  • Support skill development across life domains
  • Support the integration of the Peer Work Model into the emerge Service
  • Create opportunities for young people to connect and share experiences to build confidence and enhance self-esteem of young people who are experiencing a complex mental illness

The Functional Recovery Worker will be responsible for:

  • Engaging with young people and their families/carers/supports
  • Providing functional recovery support for complex and ‘higher risk’ young people
  • Deliver functional and psychosocial recovery based interventions, including group interventions, with young people and/or their families/carers/supports
  • Support comprehensive care for young people with complex needs alongside other emerge staff, and co-located services
  • Manage a caseload of complex and higher risk young people to provide functional recovery support
  • Maintain accurate and timely case notes and records in approved database systems
  • Participate actively in Clinical Review Meetings
  • Support research projects conducted at emerge.
  • Promote positive working relationships
  • Promote the emerge service, and communicate regularly with and build and maintain collaborative working relationships with health and welfare agencies and the general community
  • Participate in community awareness activities, relationship building activities and appropriate community and agency meetings
  • Participation in individual and group supervision, and attendance at team meetings and external meetings
  • Referral to other services as required

Each local headspace Centre is led by a lead agency on behalf of a local partnership of organisations responsible for the delivery of mental health, drug & alcohol and primary care services as well as community-based providers of vocational assistance and training.

Lead Agencies are locally based and run services that are able to share the vision of a headspace Centre and ensure this is appropriately meeting the needs of the local community.
