Working Location: Role available to work across the Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network.

Status: Part-time to Full-time (up to 37.5 hrs per week) Contract Position funding secured until 30 June 2023

The AOD Peer Support Worker will work as part of a multidisciplinary Mental Health & Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) team to reduce AOD related harms to individuals by providing harm minimisation, brief interventions and screens, peer support and aftercare to assist individuals to change behaviour patterns and increase capacity to effectively manage problems they are experiencing associated with AOD use and promote recovery.

Working in a primary care setting the AOD Peer Support Worker will draw on their lived experience to engage with individuals and their families/carers across the program’s full spectrum of care and will be responsible for:

  • Engaging with clients and their families/carers/supports with the aim to support client engagement, retention, motivation and stability before, during and after a treatment
  • Supporting comprehensive care for clients alongside the AOD Service program team through peer based supports

The successful incumbent will have experienced AOD substance dependence and be able to demonstrate successful management and maintenance over an extensive period of time.

Certificate IV or higher in Alcohol and Other Drugs (or equivalent)

Demonstrated experience and expertise in the provision of peer support for people who have AOD dependence and the provision of psychosocial supports and non-crisis interventions to AOD clients and families/friends.

Has experienced AOD substance dependence as well as demonstrated successful management and maintenance over an extensive period of time.

The following qualifications are desirable but not essential:

Allied Health Qualification ie Social Work, Psychology or Occupational Therapy, or relevant undergraduate tertiary qualification.
