Thank you for your interest in applying for the position of Allied Health Private Practitioner to be based at our Edinburgh North.

Established in 2006, headspace is a well-recognised, national not-for-profit organisation making a difference to the lives of young people aged 12-25 years.

headspace enables young people and their families to access information and support through a national network of centres and services, and drives community awareness and education about youth mental health, early intervention and help seeking.

headspace Adelaide, Edinburgh North and Onkaparinga all provide an early intervention service for young people aged 12 – 25 years with emerging mental health and/or substance use problems. These headspace Centres provide young people with access to Allied Health professionals and the support they need to develop and maintain the skills and confidence they need to live healthy and happy lives.

As part of our continued growth in services we are seeking professionally accredited Allied Health Practitioners to complement the mental health platform of our model.

We are seeking individuals who have strong clinical skills, and experience in working with young people and in working with multi-disciplinary teams.

Individuals should have a demonstrated ability to provide focused psychological services and evidence-based assessment and intervention including:

  • Psycho-education (including motivational interviewing)
  • Cognitive-behavioural therapy including: Behavioural interventions
  • Behaviour modification
  • Exposure techniques
  • Activity scheduling
  • Cognitive interventions
  • Cognitive therapy
  • Relaxation strategies Progressive muscle relaxation
  • Controlled breathing
  • Skills training Problem solving skills and training
  • Anger management
  • Social skills training
  • Communication training
  • Stress management
  • Parent management training
  • Interpersonal therapy (especially for depression)

You will also possess experience in a range of mental health service settings; including the provision of mental health services to young people aged 12-25. Naturally, you will possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, along with strong information technology and information management skills and a high level of self-motivation and initiative.

Registered Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, and Social workers are encouraged to apply.

Applicants must be eligible to provide Better Access funded services under Medicare. The purpose of the Better Access initiative is to improve treatment and management of mental illness within the community. The Better Access initiative is increasing community access to mental health professionals and team-based mental health care, with general practitioners encouraged to work more closely and collaboratively with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and occupational therapists.

What is the role of a lead agency?

Each local headspace Centre is led by a lead agency on behalf of a local partnership of organisations responsible for the delivery of mental health, drug & alcohol and primary care services as well as community-based providers of vocational assistance and training.
Lead Agencies are locally based and run services that are able to share the vision of a headspace Centre and ensure this is appropriately meeting the needs of the local community.
