About the Role

The Specialist Family Violence Lawyer will be working victims of sexual assault and their families to make applications to the Victims of Crime Tribunal. This important position forms part of the Integrated Services for Survivor Advocacy and works collaboratively with staff from the South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault (SECASA), and a cohort of SMLS volunteers and staff to lead this high-profile service. This is a unique opportunity to join a well-established and highly regarded service that has been operating for over 25 years.

About You

You will possess excellent communication and time management skills with a drive for positive outcome for clients as well experience in the provision and development of effective legal services to victim/survivors and associated people affected by sexual assault and family violence.

Responsibilities include:

• Management of casework and advocacy of VOCAT files via direct referrals from SECASA including but not limited to, filing applications, meeting with clients and managing expectations, liaising with counsellors and medical practitioners, filings Statement of claims and briefing barristers.
• Supervision of Monash University Clinical Externship students
• Manage and supervise the Integrated Service for Survivor Advocacy volunteer workforce including undertaking recruitment activities as required and needed
• Facilitate clinical education activities to SECASA Counsellors
• Build and retain important relationships with SECASA Counsellors, Monash University students, volunteers, and other stakeholders
• Participate in law reform opportunities

• This position is a fixed term part time position (30 hours per week)

• Up to $16,000 per annum can be salary packaged.
• 9.5% superannuation
