The Smith Family is a national, independent children’s charity helping disadvantaged Australians to get the most out of their education, so they can create better futures for themselves. We are now seeking a Systems Engineer to join our growing team.

Reporting to the Cloud Services Manager and working with a dedicated and passionate team, this pivotal role will be responsible for the implementation and maintenance of technical platforms (infrastructure, network and application) to ensure continuity of access to and availability of The Smith Family’s business-critical systems, contributing to The Smith Family’s vision.

A day in the life of a Systems Engineer might look like this, but every day can be different. Primarily, you will be responsible for:

  • Working within the Cloud Services team to assist with the delivery of key infrastructure projects
  • Ensuring System implementation, maintenance and support
  • Ensuring continuity of backup and DR services in line with existing service levels
  • Escalating tier-3 incidents with vendors and partners
  • Working with the Service Desk to ensure all the security and infrastructure incidents are escalated appropriately
  • Ensuring end-to end system availability and continuous improvement through automation

It takes a special kind of person to be our Cloud Systems Engineer. Our successful candidate will bring the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in Information technology or similar experience
  • 3 + years working as system engineer/administrator
  • Network/Systems Administrator Qualifications (MCSE or CCNP) or equivalent experience
  • Solid experience supporting traditional virtualised environments across both server and storage (Microsoft Server, Exchange, Hyper-V, SAN etc.)
  • Solid experience supporting network and firewall infrastructure (Fortigate, HP Procurve, SD-WAN etc.)
  • Experience supporting cloud infrastructure implementations (e.g.: AWS/Azure/Office365)
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and a positive attitude to problem solving
