The Smith Family is an independent children's charity helping Australian children living in disadvantage to get the most out of their education, so they can create better futures for themselves. We are now seeking a new Senior Business Analyst to join our team.

The purpose of this role is to review business systems and processes, including specifying requirements for business improvement along with assisting in quality assurance, defining testing strategy and to provide significant contributions in the testing of new and existing reporting and data solutions. This role also demands ability to work on multiple large initiatives at the same time and help prioritise them within agile squads.

A day in the life of a Senior Business Analyst might look like this, but really every day will be different:

  • Work closely with the business units to understand the goals, needs and functionality for the The Smith Family systems and associated processes with strong customer focus
  • Document the requirements, impact assessment, design and process maps for enhancements and fixes
  • Advise, negotiate, and facilitate communication between technical personnel, managers, and user/customer groups in order to ensure the efficient design, development, and implementation of information system and process changes
  • Obtain agreement on design solutions and estimate the analysis work effort with security consideration
  • Provide clear and precise documentation to technical groups, both internal and third parties, to facilitate the development and delivery of IT systems
  • Creation and execution of the test plans for system and regression testing, followed by an investigation of uncovered issues
  • Working as a key component of a project team for enhancing existing systems or developing new systems
  • Ensure case items are logged and associated correspondence, decisions and status are accurately recorded.
  • Review production feedback and identify process, procedural or technology improvements to reduce re-occurring incidents and provide required support to developers when needed.

It takes a special kind of person to be our Senior Business Analyst. Our successful candidate will bring the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in computer science, information systems, business analysis or equivalent.
  • At least 5 - 7 years of experience in analysing requirements
  • Have experience working with external vendors, escalating, and managing issues on behalf of project team
  • Possess outstanding analysis and documentation ability, including ability to translate business requirements into technical requirements
  • Strong knowledge of the systems development lifecycle.
  • Advanced knowledge of business process re-engineering
  • Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding ability to manage expectations and co-ordinate activity across multiple stakeholders e.g., vendors, business owners, developers.
  • Highly self-directed and able to manage and prioritise multiple concurrent and competing challenges, issues, ambiguities, and contradictions.
