The Smith Family is a national, independent children’s charity helping disadvantaged Australians to get the most out of their education, so they can create better futures for themselves.

This role has been created to provide specialist support and assistance with coordinating the successful delivery of two of The Smith Family’s flagship programs, iTrack and Student2student, on a needs basis.

  • iTrack is a mentoring program where secondary school students are matched with a volunteer mentor to chat through career interests and pathways.
  • student2student is a peer to peer reading program, matching secondary school buddies with primary school students who are up to two years behind in their reading

A day in the life of a Program Specialist might look like this, but every day will be different:

  • Providing clear and relevant updates, direction and support to team members across different levels and functional teams. This includes providing support to team members around the recruit of quality students for this program.
  • Training of program participants and troubleshooting volunteer engagement/satisfaction issues as needed, and look for program efficiencies in the volunteering space.
  • Appropriately managing any Child Protection concerns within The Smith Family’s framework and state policy.

It takes a special kind of person to be one of our Program specialists, our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Demonstrated experience in program delivery
  • Exceptional ability to establish, build and maintain internal and external networks and relationships
  • Demonstrated experience in organisational administration (including computer literacy and time management)
  • Demonstrated experience in presenting and facilitating
  • Highly effective communication skills that demonstrate professional and appropriate language in written and verbal form for a variety of audiences
  • Ability to identify problems and communicate these to the relevant people along with possible solutions
