Good at spotting an opportunity, negotiating and successfully securing new income from a range of sources? We’d love to hear from you. There has never been a more important time to join The Smith Family - an independent children's charity helping Australian children living in disadvantage to get the most out of their education.

Even before this current crisis our families were experiencing poverty and the multiple and compounding challenges associated with that. As the threat of COVID-19 intensified, we witnessed unprecedented collaboration and coordination between different levels of government, and across the community and business sectors.

We are now seeking a Business Development Manager responsible for securing long-term, high-value partnerships with major businesses to increase the reach and revenue goals. Reporting to the Senior Corporate Partnerships Manager, your partnership development expertise will secure new pathways with a range of corporate businesses and professional associations to help achieve The Smith Family’s vision.

This position is not your run of the mill B2B role. Your success will come from your experience in consultative selling, business and relationship development. You will be a master storyteller and inspired by the big picture, coupled with your strong community focus, engagement and wide network acquired over your successful career. Every day for one of our Business Development Managers is different but might look a little something like this:

  • A quick coffee catch up and brainstorm as part of a creative team working on ideas for new prospects.
  • A check in with one of our Relationship Managers on handing over the incredible new partnership you’ve just on-boarded and getting ready to launch.
  • A successful meeting with another partner, driving investment in a program which has deep and lasting impact for the students we support. (You also got to hear from one of our amazing alumni, who really helped bring the pitch to life, thanks to your support and guidance;)
  • Collaborating with our relationship management team to facilitate a workshop for one of our existing partners, helping really drive growth in giving.

It takes a special person to be a Business Development Manager with The Smith Family. Our successful candidate will bring the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant discipline e.g., business management.
  • Five+ years’ experience of active new business development in the NFP sector, preferably in a corporate partnership function.
  • Proven experience in pitching and presenting to C-suite stakeholders or senior managers.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing stewardship plans.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.

Here’s why we think you’ll love The Smith Family:
