This is a wonderful opportunity to join our team in a newly scoped role. We are seeking an experienced Cook/Kitchen Coordinator to oversee our meals program. Reporting to the Exec Manager Finance & Corporate Services, the Cook/Kitchen Coordinator is responsible for administering and managing the meals service for our homeless community community.

To be a success in this role, you should be able to manage our kitchen team and ultimately, you will ensure all plates are properly cooked and served and our customers have a pleasant dining experience. Reporting to the Exec Manager Finance & Corporate Services, the Cook/Kitchen Coordinator is responsible for administering and managing the meals service for our service community. The service supports a program to ensure those in our homeless community receive nutritious meals and the opportunity to engage with our team in a café experience. You will:

  • Prepare a weekly menu and support the use of rescued and donated food
  • Order supplies as required, to cover and ensure a quality meal service
  • Practice and oversee all principles of hygiene and safe food handling regulations
  • Supervise and engage volunteers who assist in the kitchen
  • Assist with the training of volunteers in satisfactory food preparation and food handling
  • Prepare a menu which can be rotated, according to availability of produce at any given time, and plan and resource supplies for advance catering requirements in times of leave
  • Management of all contracted equipment and cleaning maintenance for the kitchen.

Key requirements

  • A values-based approach to work aligned with our mission
  • Tertiary catering and food handling qualifications and experience as a Cook, preferably in a similar environment managing staff and volunteers
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the relevant Food Safety legislation and guidelines
  • Experience in the management and implementation of a catering service
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Clear and Current National Police and Working with Children checks
  • A current valid Driver's License
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • A strong service orientation and a willingness to pitch in and help others.
