About the role

Reporting to the Financial Controller, and working with senior management group to ensure that services are well integrated, cost-effective and comply with the requirements of their different funding bodies and will work collaboratively with the SMHOW’s team to achieve business results against strategic plans, business and work plans profit and loss cost centres and other key performance measures.

With a supportive finance officer working to the role, you will be responsible for ensuring that St Mary’s House of Welcome (SMHOW)’s financial, accounting, resources, risk management and compliance obligations. This role requires a track record in working in not for profit roles at a senior level and provides a growth pathway internally.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • As part of the senior management group, contribute to the achievement of the Strategic and Risk Plan
  • Lead the financial accounting and statutory compliance functions
  • Oversee all payroll functions
  • Development of a suite of financial reports that meet the needs of the CEO and Board
  • Grow and develop the leadership team in managing their P&L centres
  • Representing the agency at various network and stakeholder meetings as required

Key requirements

We are looking for an experienced and qualified Accountant with strong knowledge of the disability sector and a strong mission focus. Your experience ideally includes working within the health services, disability/community sector and knowledge of the mental health and/or homelessness sectors would be a key advantage.

In addition, you will possess:

  • A values-based approach to work aligned with our mission
  • CPA/CA qualified and current is essential and MBA highly desirable
  • Financial modelling and analysis skills, experience in managing the accounting of a small company
  • Expert knowledge of finance functions
  • Bring strong knowledge and experience in statutory requirements and quality standards
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal – including effective report writing skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills enabling you to develop and maintain effective and productive working relationships with others and influence internal and external stakeholders
  • Financial modelling and analysis skills experience and experience with managing a small team
  • A strong service orientation and a willingness to pitch in and help others
