Sustainable Living Tasmania’s current situation & aspirations:

After a period of reflection and re-energising, Sustainable Living Tasmania (SLT) is ready to enter a new phase. We are seeking an individual with vision, imagination and independence and who will bring energy and ideas to SLT in the newly established role of community engagement co-ordinator.

SLT has a long history of engaging with the Tasmanian community and householders to share skills in sustainable living. We are still working in practical energy efficiency programs and now we are looking to re-invigorate our community engagement through a series of events that align with our vision, purpose and goal. Here is the current statement:

The community engagement coordinator will develop, coordinate and manage an annual event or a series of events and activities focussed on contributing toward SLT’s goals. Initial appointment is for 12 months with the hope that the position will be extended and the incumbent will be able to generate additional income sources to sustain the position.

The right person will create opportunities to grow the work and rewards.

The person we are looking for will:

  • Undertake project planning & management including budgeting and volunteer management
  • Have the capacity to work independently and also to be a supportive colleague
  • Have the ability to liaise and communicate comfortably with people of various backgrounds
  • Undertake marketing & communications
  • Oversee event logistics.
  • Secure sponsorship and funding
  • Evaluate outcomes and provide reports

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Experience in event management, project management or similar role, including management of budgets, engagement of stakeholders, creation and management of documentation,
  • High level of communication skills, demonstrated ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including community, business, government, organisations, and individuals from all walks of life.
  • Ability to self-manage, multi-task and prioritise at times competing workflows. Capacity to work from home and outside business hours.
  • Proficiency with MS office suite of programs
  • Competence in Social media engagement and management
  • Flexibility with working hours
  • Current Driver’s Licence and own car
  • Ability to gain a Working with Vulnerable People registration

Desirable:

  • Evidence of relationships and networks amongst a broad range of potential stakeholders
  • Experience with marketing, promotion and media
  • Proficiency with Website and content design
  • Fund raising experience

Indicative workload:

Event Management workload peaks around events, and so we are looking for someone who can work flexible hours. A Time Off In Lieu (TOIL) system can be used where if more than contracted hours are completed. If it is not possible to take accrued TOIL for an extended period due to ongoing work commitments, then it may be paid out as additional salary.

Renumeration:

It is expected that the SLT Community Engagement Co-ordinator will work on a flexible part time basis 0.5FTE, 38 hours per fortnight averaged over 12 months, but with flexibility to do more hours in the lead up to major events and less hours at other times

Remuneration is in accordance with the relevant award and conditions.
