Southside Justice

About Southside Justice

One of Melbourne’s first community legal centres, Southside Justice (formerly St Kilda Legal Service) has been helping the community access justice for more than 50 years.

Southside Justice is a free legal service for people on low incomes in the cities of Port Phillip, Stonnington and Bayside. Its work is made possible by a dedicated team of lawyers, administrators, and volunteers.

Although our name has changed, our mission, vision, goals and values remain the same, and we will continue and build on the work of the St Kilda Legal Service. This includes:

  • Providing targeted legal help to people facing disadvantage, who often experience multiple legal problems at the same time, through our Community Justice Partnerships
  • Assisting sex workers and the organisations that support them, as well as monitoring the implementation of new laws
  • Helping LGBTIQ+ people in Victoria with legal problems through our LGBTIQ Legal Program
  • Undertaking systemic advocacy to promote and enhance access to justice, with a focus on creating fairer outcomes and laws for our clients and community.

Our brand new and purpose-built office is located on Carlisle Street, opposite the St Kilda Town Hall.
