Social Outreach services are available to all members of the community and can be accessed free of charge or at minimal cost.

Horizon House Young Mother and Baby Program delivers early intervention and case management strategies that focus on supporting young mothers to set and achieve parenting as well as education and/or vocational goals. We support with the young women to engage in education, training or employment as part of their journey towards independence as well as provide a life skills program, through case management, and support and help to reconcile young people with their families when it’s safe and appropriate to do so.

The Position

St John of God Social Outreach has an exciting opportunity available for a motivated Youth Residential Caregiver to join the team at our Horizon House Young Mother and Baby Program in Bendigo.

The focus of the Horizon House Young Mother and Baby Program is to provide accommodation and support as well a parenting program to vulnerable young mothers aged 16 – 22 years from a wide variety of backgrounds and circumstances.

The successful candidate will work in a residential care setting alongside the Support Coordinator, to provide advocacy & support to residents, as well as coordinating, developing and implementing Independent Life Skills Programmes, in order to meet the individualised needs of the residents throughout their stay at Horizon House.

There are two positions available; one position is being offered on a Permanent Full-Time basis, contracted to 76 hours per fortnight. Applicants must be available to work shifts across 7 days of the week. Shifts will also include residential sleepovers. There is also a part-time position available.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A willingness and capacity to embrace the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.
  • Minimum Certificate IV in Youth Work or similar.
  • Extensive experience in an area related to and working with young women and early childhood.
  • A demonstrated knowledge of the special needs of young parents and trauma-informed care together with at least five years recent relevant experience working with at-risk young people is essential.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Privacy Legislation and Occupational, Health & Safety Act Regulations.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Adhere to pre-employment immunisation policy and possession of a current:
    • Unrestricted State Driver’s License
    • First Aid Certificate
    • State Working with Children Card
  • Commitment to and participation in ongoing development on skills and knowledge in working within a therapeutic service model.
