Banksia Women is a program of St John’s Community Services (SJCS) supporting women who have experienced domestic and family violence. We support women to flourish and heal after experiencing abuse, using feminist, trauma-informed and strengths-based practices. We strive to be an inclusive, safe and non-judgemental space for survivors to connect with one another. Banksia Women also works collaboratively with other services, groups and leaders in the local area, as we strongly believe in the need for meaningful collaboration and partnerships in order to eliminate domestic violence in our community.

We are looking for a passionate, proactive and experienced female case manager to join our team, as we continue to grow Banksia Women.

Role description:

  • Maintain and manage a full caseload, with supervision and support from program coordinator
  • Undertake assessments for risk and safety for women who have experienced domestic and family violence
  • Plan, implement and evaluate case management strategies for women, according to their goals and needs
  • Engage with our existing service partners, and seek to develop other collaborative partnerships
  • Assist with other program activities, such as drop in and workshops
  • Maintain relevant documentation, verbal and written reports and internal and external data collection as required
  • Contribute to the Christian ethos of St John’s Community Services through leading others in prayer and writing prayer newsletters to members and supporters

Essential criteria:

  • Skills
    • Effective safety planning, with strong person-centred and trauma-informed principles
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate professionally with a variety of behavioural and personality types
    • Critical thinking and creative problem-solving
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and confidently, as well as working well within a team
    • Awareness of child protection obligations, and ROSH reporting requirements
  • Experience
    • Excellent case management skills to include advocacy, assessment, development and implementation of tailored case plans
    • At least three years of experience working with women who have experienced domestic violence, from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
    • Demonstrated understanding of the feminist practice and how it is used as a framework to understand/respond to the gendered nature of violence against women
    • Experience working with volunteers
    • Working collaboratively with local services and leaders in the local community

  • Training/ education

    • Minimum of three years of experience working directly with women who have experienced DFV
    • Tertiary qualifications in a Social Work, or related discipline, with demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development

Desirable criteria:

  • Ability to speak a second language
  • Experience in supervising social work students
