We are experiencing substantial growth within the Early Childhood Intervention Sector across the Northern Rivers of NSW and Gold Coast QLD and are excited about the growth opportunities to support families and children.

About the role

Key responsibilities of the role include providing early childhood intervention services to infants and young children who have developmental delays or disabilities, and/or are at risk of developmental delays, their families, carers and communities in the Byron Bay region, to promote the child's development and to facilitate successful inclusion across the child's natural environments.

  • Understanding of privacy and confidentiality issues
  • Driver's license and access to a reliable/registered and insured vehicle
  • Working with Children Clearance Number
  • Willingness to apply for Queensland Blue Card Services check
  • Cleared Criminal Record Check obtained within 12 months
  • Current First Aid Certificate if required
  • Early Childhood Education Experience preferred

Qualifications —Essential

  • Minimum 4-year tertiary qualification in education or other discipline associated with child development and post graduate qualification such as a post graduate diploma or masters' qualification in special education or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of early intervention strategies and practices as related to evidence based research in the field, current research on curriculum, instruction, assessment relating to early childhood interventions in early childhood education and care, child development and brain-based learning research; strong leadership skills, good listening skills, methods of observing, evaluating and recording child behaviour and development; record keeping and report preparation techniques; effective oral and written communication skills, principles and practices of training and providing work direction to others and operation of a variety of office equipment including computers and appropriate software, ability to provide families with information to manage individual funding.
  • Knowledge of applicable local state, and federal laws, codes, rules and regulations
  • Understanding of and commitment to NSW Disability Service Standards, The Early Learning Years Framework, The National Quality Standards, Early Childhood Australia and Early Childhood Intervention Australia Position Statement on the Inclusion of Children with a Disability in Early Childhood Education and Care, current State and Federal reforms in the field of disability — person centred /family centred practices and individualised funding.
  • Current drivers licence and own transport
  • Understanding of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEP), Anti-Discrimination, Occupational Health and Safety and the Strategy for Principles for a culturally diverse Society.
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the field of regular early childhood education and care or kindergarten
  • Experience in working with families with diverse backgrounds including parents with a diagnosed intellectual disability, parents with diagnosed mental health issues, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Families.

These include but are not limited to competency in early childhood development, neurological/physiological diversity, family centred practice, social and cultural diversity, home visiting observing, analysing, reporting, consulting, coaching, mentoring, adult education, team work, individual intervention, group work, family work, advocacy, mediation and ongoing reflective practice.

  • Build a strong team of supports around the child and family
  • Provide information, service assistance and guidance
  • Advocate for inclusive practices within the child’s community
  • Promote emotional well-being around the family as required
