Duties

• Manage large quantities of information, determining priorities and ensuring the Minister’s deadlines are met by developing policy and political initiatives relevant to Minister’s portfolio and political responsibilities and providing advice, briefings, speeches and other written materials for Minister as required
• Undertake analysis and review complex policy issues and assist Minister with issues management involving areas under ministerial portfolios, as directed
• Problem-solve in relation to matters affecting Legislative Assembly operations and Assembly business matters across allocated portfolios, and as directed represent Minister at meetings and functions
• Liaise with the community and stakeholders and assist with campaign, electorate and constituent activities as required and assist in helping media adviser including responding to media inquiries and organising events
• Work closely with other policy advisers, media advisers and the chief of staff to support and provide input into longer term planning, strategy development, and policy review for Minister
• Assist in running of the office including answering the office phone and dealing with emails and correspondence as required
• Other duties as directed.

Selection criteria

1. Experience or understanding of parliamentary systems, legislation and/or the ACT political system;
2. Strong research, analytical and problem solving skills;
3. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal and relationship management skills;
4. Capacity to work independently, meet deadlines and work under pressure;
5. A background in environmental policy would be preferable but not essential.
