About this opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Consultant Economic Analyst to join our team in our Sydney or Melbourne practice. This person should have formal qualifications in economics, econometrics, data science or a similar quantitative field. This role requires 4 to 5 years of work experience in the private or public sector and experience leading a small-scale multidisciplinary team. Experience in project management, preparing high quality and engaging reports, presentations, dashboards, data models for clients. Understanding the importance of communication is essential.

Our team strives to use the latest data, research, and analytical tools to address real-world problems and provide insightful public policy advice to our clients. We are looking for someone who is highly competent in collecting and preparing data from established and novel data sources; and who can use established, and develop new, economic models that can be used to extract and communicate the economic narrative to inform policy and investment decisions across a range of sectors. Experience in policy and investment decision analysis, including cost benefit analysis and other economic evaluation techniques will be beneficial. Understanding of spatial data, and analysis of urban/city economics will be advantageous as it is an important component of all SGS work.

For this quantitative role, we seek applicants who are skilled in the use of MS Excel and have experience with one or more software packages commonly used for data analysis (R, Python, SQL,GIS and Webapps) and the ability to manage projects utilising the above methods Applicants need to demonstrate a keen interest in major economic, societal, environmental and policy issues and be able to work autonomously and alongside a passionate team of professionals from varied backgrounds.

Overall, highly desirable applicants are those who can demonstrate both strong technical capabilities and the ability to extract and communicate the economic narrative and policy implications from their work as well as manage internal project teams and interact with clients.

While based locally, you’ll work with clients across Australia and New Zealand and, on occasion, elsewhere internationally.
