ABOUT US

Seniors Rights Service has been assisting older Australians as the leading provider of legal services, aged care advocacy and rights education and information to seniors in NSW since 1986. This position will lead a team of Aged Care Advocates across Western Sydney and Western NSW to support older people who receive or are applying for government-subsidised aged care by providing advocacy services, assisting in understanding and accessing the aged care system. Aged Care Advocates assist older people and their representatives to exercise their rights through a supportive process which includes the provision of information, education and advice.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Team Leader, Advocacy Services is a full-time position on a max-term contract to the end of June 2025, aligning with our current funding period. This role reports to and works closely with the Manager, Advocacy and Regional Services. This role will initially work remotely with some travel to the Sydney office as required. We are currently looking for a suitable office location to create a hub for our growing Western Sydney and Western NSW region, where you will have access to hybrid work arrangements. Intrastate travel is a requirement of the role.

The Team Leader, Advocacy Services will lead the development, delivery and effectiveness of our advocacy services across Western Sydney and Western NSW. This key role will ensure the smooth delivery of the National Aged Care Advocacy Program in the Western NSW region against contractual obligations.

Key duties include:

  • People and financial management.
  • Delivery against agreed budgets, program outcomes and reporting.
  • Working with your team to coordinate the provision of information and education sessions to residents of aged care homes, retirement villages, carers, staff of aged care services, health care professionals and other community organisations.
  • Lead and manage individual staff and the team to achieve Seniors Rights Service’s vision and strategic goals through promotion of our values and setting exceptional standards with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Lead and participate in Seniors Rights Service’s Performance and Development Review program and create Individual Work Plans for all direct reports.
  • Have a solid understanding of human service contracts and service agreements including reporting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with other service providers including aged care settings, key stakeholders and community service agencies and to achieve positive client outcomes.
  • Manage and develop relationships and partnering opportunities with key community stakeholders.

ABOUT YOU

  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications or extensive and demonstrated experience in a people management position, including a strong interest in coaching and developing staff.
  2. Demonstrated experience in program management with a focus on continuous quality improvement.
  3. Strong financial management skills including contract management, budgeting, monitoring expenditure and financial reporting.
  4. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships across the organisation and with external stakeholders.
  5. Adapts well to and can lead, drive and advocate change in a growing organisation.
  6. Ability to work under pressure, manage complex and often competing tasks and priorities and the ability to prioritise your own work to deliver results.
  7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and fluent in the use of technology including Microsoft Office and reporting applications.
  8. Demonstrated understanding of the rights of older people and the dynamics of ageism.
  9. Willingness to obtain an annual flu vaccination and be fully COVID vaccinated. Hold a valid federal police record check and driver’s license.
