  • Job Type: Part time, 4 days week (Electorate Officer A $65,177 - $73,098 PA pro rata plus Electorate Staff Allowance for overtime to be determined)

  • Workbase: Redfern with some travel inside NSW, regular WFH days by agreement
  • Supervisor/Manager: Reports to Chief of Staff, works with the Office Manager & Community Organiser

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984. Employment conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Collective Agreement 2016–2019. In addition to your salary, generous employer-sponsored superannuation of 15.4% is offered.

The Community Organiser and Party Liaison engages & empowers Greens local groups and coordinates the Senator's presence with these groups.

You’ll be working as part of a small collaborative team who are committed to progressive political change with key responsibility for supporting the Senate office’s work with Greens local groups, members and councillors. Responsibilities

  1. Building and maintaining relationships and communication with Greens local groups across NSW
  2. Coordinating the Senator’s calendar to attend local group meetings and events both in person and online
  3. Identifying opportunities for, organising and running community and stakeholder events in collaboration with local groups.
  4. Liaison with the NSW Greens and Australian Greens including regular reports
  5. Attending Greens local group and community events, which may require working on weekends and occasionally on public holidays by agreement
  6. Maintain a clean and safe workspace, contribute to a safe and respectful workplace culture, and abide by work health and safety laws, policies and procedures
  7. Undertake training as directed, including induction and safe and respectful workplace training

Essential Selection Criteria

  • A commitment to community organising preferably with experience working or volunteering on community organising and/or grassroots campaigns including within the Greens, activist groups or NGOs
  • Experience creating and managing events
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and under time constraints
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with a wide cross section of individuals and organisations
  • Excellent organisational skills, including demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines in a dynamic environment with minimal supervision
  • Commitment to the pillars of the Australian Greens and an understanding of progressive Greens’ values.

Desirable

  • Experience or interest in social media, email communications and event photography
  • Experience using graphic design software such as Canva (InDesign and Adobe suite a bonus) or experience working with graphic designers and creating a design brief
  • Driver’s licence
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Australian Greens’ policies and major issues.
