Operations Manager - Work from Home

Social Enterprise Council of NSW & ACT (SECNA)
  • 15 hours per week, 6 month initial contract, $40/hour
  • Work from home anywhere in NSW or ACT (willing and able to travel to Sydney occasionally when needed)

Role purpose

As the first and only employee of SECNA, your role is to lead and grow the organisation, deliver on SECNA’s strategic goals and funded projects, and to coordinate directors, volunteers and members to ensure we’re all pulling in the same direction and achieving what we set out to do.

Background

The social enterprise sector is exciting and impactful, under-resourced and under-recognised, and growing fast.

Responding to strong demand from social enterprises in NSW and ACT for a peak body that could raise the profile of the sector, connect the sector, advocate for social enterprises and share information, SECNA was established in early 2020.

The organisation is in its infancy and looking for an organised, multi-skilled, values-aligned person to take charge.

What we're looking for:

  • “The One” – you’re it! As the only employee, we want someone who will own this role and drive on SECNA’s aims.
  • A proven human Swiss army knife – someone with a big pot of skills and experience including program and project management, operations, stakeholder engagement, leadership, and who knows their way around email, social media and spreadsheets
  • A “do-er”, a mover-and-shaker, someone who gets things done
  • Someone who is passionate about and can represent the social enterprise sector
  • Someone who is up for a challenge and can operate well in a brand new, ambiguous environment
  • A self-starter who can prioritise well and deliver
  • Someone who can bring a diverse team together to deliver great things – who can make volunteers feel appreciated while also ensuring they do what they say they will

What you’ll do:

  • Build SECNA’s presence and reach. Specifically, you will be responsible for:
    • Member engagement
    • Communications
    • Events
    • Grants and funding
  • Work with the Board on partnerships and government relations
  • Engage people
  • Deliver on strategy
  • Generate revenue
  • Spend more time on operations and getting things done than on exploring possibilities and networking with the social enterprise ecosystem (for which you have eight well-connected Board members who can speak to stakeholders about the sector)

Key challenges:

  • As a new organisation, we’re setting up everything from scratch
  • This role is the only employee so has responsibility for the full breadth of activities
  • We need to secure funding in order to ensure this role continues past 30 June 2021

Key benefits and resources

  • This is a career-changing role for the right person
  • As the main representative of SECNA, you’ll meet just about everyone in social enterprise and its ecosystem including funders and government
  • You’ll work with passionate, experienced Board members who are time-poor but highly experienced, passionate promoters of the power of social enterprise and the benefits of coming together as a sector
  • There are a lot of interns, volunteers, and members keen to invest some time in making SECNA a success, and awaiting your direction
