The Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA) is a purpose-led member-based not-for-profit. ISCA is the peak industry body for advancing sustainability outcomes in infrastructure. ISCA’s purpose is to ensure all infrastructure delivers cultural, social, environmental and economic benefits. ISCA has established itself as an influential membership body within the infrastructure sector, progressing from its infancy as a Sustainability Rating Scheme to now having deepening relationships within the transport sector and growth plans to expand into other sectors such as energy, sustainable finance, local government and renewables. ISCA has since developed a number of tools and services to support industry in the transition to more resilient, inclusive and low-carbon infrastructure.

The Board is well-Governed and comprises a mix of both volunteer Member and Independent Directors. ISCA is seeking applications from experienced Board Directors to Chair the Board as it transforms into its next strategic phase of growth. The intention is for the current Chair, Alison Rowe to announce the incoming Chair and share the transition plan at the Annual General Meeting of Members in November 2021. Key and essential skills being sought include:

  • Past experience Chairing a public, private and/or community sector Board;
  • High level conceptual and strategic thinking skills; high degree of financial literacy;
  • An understanding and passion for sustainability within the infrastructure sector;
  • Ability to facilitate the effective functioning of the board including managing the conduct, frequency and length of Board meetings;
  • Ability and experiencing in building high-performing Boards;
  • Contemporary Governance education and best practice corporate principles (e.g. AICD course).

In addition to the skills and experience listed above, the new Independent Chair will have values aligned to ISCA’s and an established and credible reputation that will traverse public and private sectors. Sophisticated communications skills, strong leadership and an ability to facilitate independent thought, critical thinking and collaborative behaviours that drive effective Board functioning will be essential to the success of the new Chair.
