For over 165 years, Melbourne City Mission (MCM) has sought to create inclusive, fair and just communities across Victoria, to ensure all people have equal access to opportunities. They’ve been strongly advocating changes to the youth homelessness system in Victoria for some years, and through some commissioned research conducted by AHURI have identified a range of policy and structural issues along with recommendations that can improve the state of youth homelessness.
Melbourne City Mission Housing (MCM Housing) is an organisation established by MCM to address the lack of appropriate and affordable housing options available to young people across Victoria.
MCM Housing was registered by the Office of the Housing Registrar in December 2021 and aims to become the leading community housing organisation for young people in Victoria, developing innovative, sustainable, and scalable housing models. An Executive Officer is now required to drive the implementation of the Business Plan and the Regulatory Action Plan for MCM Housing as they commence operations.
The newly created position of Executive Officer (EO) will report to and work closely with the Board to establish the operational readiness of MCM Housing. Key priorities and deliverables in the short term will be to engage with and develop effective relationships with relevant stakeholders, including MCM corporate services and relevant program areas, as well as State Government and Housing Associations to set up effective communication and operational systems that will enable the progression of a number of priority projects.
The EO will be responsible for managing the administration, developing policies and procedures, and recruiting of staff as the organisation develops in order to deliver the Business Plan and maintain regulatory compliance.
The Executive Officer is an establishment role that will suit someone who is self-motivated and prepared to roll-up their sleeves to perform a range of tasks to ‘get things done’, from providing sound advice and support to the Board through to preparing funding submissions and tenders to support MCM Housing in delivering housing projects.
A strong understanding and experience of being able to successfully navigate the machinery of government, along with a broad range of skills, including finance, leadership gravitas, strategic foresight, sophisticated communication and negotiating abilities will be key to the success of the EO.
You will need to be resilient, someone who enjoys working through ambiguity and solving issues and problems as they arise.
Ideally you will have qualifications in a relevant area such as Planning, Property Development, Law, Engineering, or similar and experience as an Executive leader.
Strong Project Management skills (ideally in housing developments) or similar, along with the ability to build effective relationships and influence a multitude of stakeholders whilst keeping a keen focus on delivering outcomes will be key to your and MCM Housing’s success.
