Job description

We’re looking for a passionate and dynamic Health Lead/Specialist to implement SCoA’s activities supporting the roll out of the COVID-19 vaccine.

This role will work closely with the SCoA CEO and the Department of Home Affairs to assist multicultural communities in their uptake of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Location: Canberra, ACT

Duration: Until January 2021

Work hours: Either part time or full time (as preferred by the applicant)

ABOUT SCOA

The Settlement Council of Australia (SCoA) is the peak body representing the vast majority of settlement services across Australia providing direct services and support to people of migrant and refugee backgrounds.

Our members include organisations large and small, who are committed to the successful settlement of migrants and refugees across the country. Their services range from greeting new arrivals at the airport, through to assisting them to secure housing, learn English, make social connections, access services and find their first job. Australia’s settlement services are recognised as being among the best in the world.

KEY POSITION OBJECTIVES

The key objectives for this role are:

  • Increase the availability of accurate, accessible and targeted information about the COVID-19 vaccine among migrant and refugee communities.
  • Ensure the government is informed of key considerations for ensuring maximum uptake of the COVID-19 vaccine among migrant and refugee communities in Australia.
  • Contribute to the evidence-base on effective health communications and health interventions in migrant and refugee communities.
  • Increase SCoA’s influence and credibility among stakeholders.
  • Increase satisfaction of members with the SCOA service offering.
  • Provide input into SCOA’s strategic planning.
  • Champion SCoA’s visions and values.
  • Have a strong understanding of cultural sensitivity and embrace diversity in the workplace.
  • Operate within all regulatory and company compliance including:
    • SCoA Board policies and procedures
    • Workplace Health and Safety
    • Workplace Regulations and Industrial Awards 

This position reports to the SCoA CEO and works collaboratively with the rest of the SCoA team.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver SCoA’s COVID-19 vaccination roll-out project in accordance with the requirements set by the funding body. This will include leading consultations and forums, developing content and materials to assist member organisations, providing policy advice to government, and other tasks.
  • Represent SCoA to external stakeholders and in various forums as required.
  • Assist with the development of other health related SCoA policy, research and capacity building activities.
  • On occasion, assist with other research, policy, and advocacy work.
  • Assist in the day-to-day management of SCoA and various administrative tasks.
  • Undertake other tasks as directed by the CEO.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Required

  • Project management skills including budgeting and an ability to balance multiple projects and competing priorities at a time.
  • Experience in providing policy advice.
  • High level stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Time management and organisational skills
  • An ability to identify and respond to stakeholder's underlying needs, ensuring SCoA’s work meets the needs of its members and other stakeholders.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and cultural awareness.
  • Commitment to SCoA’s vision of an equitable, respectful, and inclusive Australia where effective settlement outcomes provide every opportunity to humanitarian entrants and migrants to fully participate in society.

Desirable

  • Experience or knowledge in a health-related field.
  • Experience in developing and implementing effective communications strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience in diversity and inclusion, multiculturalism, settlement or a related field.
