  • Work hours: 15 hours per fortnight, with possibility of increase subject to funding
  • Remuneration: SCHADS Level 5.1 (ACT) (approx. $67,000 FTE pro rata)

About the Settlement Council of Australia (SCoA)

SCoA is the peak body representing the majority of settlement services across Australia providing direct services to people of refugee and migrant backgrounds. SCoA promotes effective settlement outcomes for migrants and refugees settling in Australia and the Australian community through our policy, advocacy, and capacity-building work.

About the role

SCoA is seeking a Communications Officer responsible for supporting the development and distribution of SCoA’s communications to a wide range of key stakeholders. This involves developing digital content, member updates, social media content and newsletters; and other relevant activities supporting SCoA’s communication and engagement priorities.

This position reports to the SCoA CEO and works collaboratively with the policy team.

This is a part time position until April 2021, with a possibility of extension.

Selection Criteria

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to translate information into clear, compelling messages and create targeted communications
  • Experience creating digital content and proficiency using Microsoft Office and desktop publishing applications such as Mailchimp and WordPress
  • Commitment to SCoA’s vision of an equitable, respectful, and inclusive Australia where effective settlement outcomes provide every opportunity to humanitarian entrants and migrants to fully participate in society
  • Time management and organisational skills
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (journalism, communications, social sciences) and/or previous work experience in communications or community sector.
