Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation are looking for 2 passionate Relationship Officers to join our Major Gift Philanthropy team.

These positions are full-time permanent and temporary contract roles.

The Relationship Officer works within the Major Gifts team and is responsible for the acquisition and management of a portfolio of major donors with capacity to donate funds in excess of $10K. This role is a key part of the team responsible for acquiring and managing donors with the capacity to give from $10K to $10m per annum. This role is focussed on income generation, donor engagement and helping our partners receive a suitable and consistent level of recognition.

Specific Responsibilities

Fundraising

  • Develop and maintain topic expertise in your area of donor responsibility.
  • Work with stakeholders to identify and prioritise areas of funding need.
  • Manages a portfolio of approximately 100-125 donor prospects. Develops and implements qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for assigned prospect pool.
  • Conducts at least 10 substantive contacts per month (e.g. significant moves that advance a relationship with the Foundation such as in-person or virtual visits).
  • Match funding opportunities to donor interests in order to maximise donation potential. This will include working closely with staff of the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network (SCHN), and others in the Engagement and Philanthropy teams to ensure donor engagements are maximised.
  • Communicate confidently, respectfully and sensitively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including senior management, high-capacity donors, patients and their family members, other staff and Patrons/Ambassadors/celebrities.
  • Build relationships with clinicians and researchers to maximise donor engagement and help build donor referrals to SCHF
  • Ensure donors are given the opportunity to have a deeper relationship with the Foundation, are regularly stewarded through engagement activities, and receive feedback and acknowledgement appropriate to their needs and interests, which provides value for their engagement.
  • Work with DM team to identify mid level donors with capacity or propensity to increase gifts over time towards a $10k+ per year, building this support segment and ensuring there is a donor journey mapped with a stewardship plan that maximises engagement and strengthens the connection to SCHF and the entities we support.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned; some evening and weekend work required.

Business Planning and Administration

  • Use initiative and sensitivity to solve problems/issues, identifying when to delegate or escalate.
  • Update CRM database in line with Foundation requirements.
  • Prepare and submit briefs to internal or external stakeholders for activities required.

General

  • Demonstrating leadership, professionalism and a donor-centric work ethic including a commitment to SCHF vision, purpose, and competencies.
  • Attend and participate in meetings, training and events as required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications desired. At least 2 years’ experience in a similar role demonstrating a donor focused approach, with the ability to communicate individually and collectively to a group of donors.

Functional / Technical Skills & Competencies

Essential

  • Demonstrated high level application of fundraising principles, techniques and strategies, in a similar role in fundraising, sales or marketing, including a proven history of closing philanthropic gifts (over $10K).
  • Proven ability to plan, develop, deliver and monitor large projects with evidenced success in achieving agreed outcomes and timelines while maintaining healthy relationships.
  • Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal skills including the ability to negotiate, be persuasive and develop trust, and manage a variety of internal and external stakeholders across all levels and from varying backgrounds.
  • Proven high level oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write high quality cases for support/proposals and make engaging presentations.
  • Proven client focused approach, with the ability to identify and respond to the individual needs and interests of major donors ensuring value for engagement.
  • High level computer skills in the Microsoft Office suite (particularly in Word, Excel, and Outlook) and previous experience using CRM databases.
