The Sunshine Coast Environment Council Inc (SCEC) is the peak environmental advocacy body for the Sunshine Coast region.

SCEC's Vision: ‘An ecologically sustainable world achieved through individual and community stewardship of the natural environment at local, regional and global levels’.

SCEC's Mission: ‘Through leadership, education and environmental activism, to encourage Sunshine Coast individuals and communities to support and participate in working towards the goal of environmental sustainability’.

SCEC is seeking energetic and skilled individuals to join the SCEC Management Committee. The Committee oversees the management of the organisation and contributes to setting SCEC’s future directions in protecting the natural environment whilst ensuring a sustainable future for the Sunshine Coast and Noosa region.

We are looking for several experienced leaders to complement our current voluntary Management Committee members. We are looking for a range of expertise including strategic planning, environmental advocacy, communications and fundraising, community and private sector engagement, education and capacity building, financial management and non-profit corporate governance.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a respected regional environment group that has been at the forefront of campaigns to protect the Sunshine Coast region’s special natural qualities and lifestyles for 40 years. You can help to address the future challenges facing our region and communities, from extensive urban development, increases in traffic, tourism, and carbon emissions, over-consumption of natural resources, degradation of natural habitats and ecosystem functions, and the impacts from climate change.

A key part of SCEC’s work is as the regional peak body, providing support for groups working on local and regional environmental and sustainability issues, monitoring and raising awareness, working with the private sector, lobbying at all levels of government for improved policy and action programs. Currently SCEC has over 50 member groups that represent an active combined membership of over 15,000 individuals.

As a SCEC Management Committee member you will be required to:

  • Attend monthly Management Committee meetings,
  • Contribute to the overall management of SCEC,
  • Ensure SCEC complies with relevant governance and financial requirements, and
  • Contribute to wider SCEC campaigns, programs and projects.
