Family Law Solicitor
The Family Violence Unit (FVU) Solicitor position is accountable to the Principal Solicitor for compliance with the Community Legal Centres Australia (CLCA) Professional Indemnity Insurance Guidelines and to the FVU Team Leader for day-to-day professional supervision.
Legal services will include information, referral, advice, advocacy, casework, representation, community legal education, and law and policy reform.
Areas of law will include services primarily in family law and other legal matters within SCALES’ areas of practice (as per the Legal Practice Guidelines).
Key Responsibilities
- All aspects of legal service delivery including representation, casework, and advice
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Supervision of s junior solicitors, advocates, and volunteers
- Develop and implement community legal education programs relevant to women experiencing family violence
Work requirements of this position
- Holds a current practising certificate in WA
- Demonstrated experience in providing high-quality legal advice and casework services in the area of family law (parenting and financial)
- A strong commitment to social justice principles
- Demonstrated knowledge or experience working with women experiencing family violence
- The capacity to work effectively, independently, and collaboratively
- Well-developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Well-developed legal research skills
- Sound computer skills and ability to prepare reports, court documents, and letters
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal women and women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
