Save the Children's Supporting Young People on Bail program is designed to support young people on bail to reengage with positive educational, vocational/employment and recreational opportunities, diverting them away from further involvement in the youth justice system. We need you to support their safety, wellbeing and resilience, and help them to take the steps to become the best they can be.

Where you come in:

In this part-time, fixed term position (3 days per week through to June 2021, with potential for extension), you'll engage with young people in contact with the youth justice system to build strong trusting relationships and assist them to address barriers impacting on their wellbeing and support them towards independence. You'll also work closely with key stakeholders to strengthen collaborative practice to ensure young people receive coordinated supports.

You will make an impact by:

  • Building lasting relationships with young people from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Supporting young people to reach their full potential and build extensive support networks and connection to community
  • Building and maintaining strong networks, service delivery partnerships, and effective referral pathways
  • Working from a strengths-based, trauma-informed, client centred and solution focused approach
  • Supporting our other youth programs as required

You consider yourself a team player, have a 'can-do' attitude and demonstrate an infectious enthusiasm for your job.

This role requires:

  • A minimum of a Certificate IV in Youth Work (or a related field), or progress towards
  • Ability to work with children and young people, often with complex needs, in a safe and respectful way
  • Strong time management, organisational and record keeping skills
  • Knowledge of the issues facing young people in the community, including trauma, neglect and abuse
