We need you to work closely with young people involved with the youth justice system to take the steps to become the best they can be, through practical support, case management and advocacy.

Where you come in:

In this full time, maximum term position based in Mount Isa (through to June 2025), you'll work with the families of young people aged 10-17 who are on bail and are at high risk of being remanded into custody. Reporting to the Team Leader, you'll provide a range of emotional and practical supports as part of a case management approach.

You will make an impact by:

  • Supporting parents, children and young people to recover from trauma and access whatever resources and support they need to realise their goals
  • Building meaningful, respectful connections with families and young people from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Making use of local community services and accessing referral pathways
  • Maintaining contact with courts and Youth Justice to ensure that requirements are being met

You're a passionate youth worker, and you enjoy working with families and young people from different walks of life, with complex and challenging needs. You understand the issues facing young people and have creative, innovative ideas to provide support. This coupled with your dynamic personality and communication skills enable you to build connections to support young people to lead a bright future.

This role requires:

  • Relevant Diploma level qualification, or significant equivalent experience
  • Experience providing family and individual support within case management frameworks
  • Understanding of the youth justice system
  • Strong time management, organisational and record keeping skills
  • Knowledge of the issues facing young people in the community, including alcohol and other substances, mental health concerns and risks, disengagement from/with education and training opportunities, disruption in family relationships, and displacement and disconnection with their community
