No two days are the same in Save the Children Australia's Secondary to Intensive Family Support program (S-IFS) in the Brisbane region for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities. We need you to provide culturally appropriate support to people who have experienced domestic and family violence. In this varied and challenging role, prioritisation of victim safety is critical and will impact on the lives of families who have experienced abuse.

Where you come in:

In this full-time, fixed-term position (through to end of March 2022), you'll hold a small case load of complex clients experiencing domestic and family violence (DFV) and provide technical support and strategies to the S-IFS team, including supporting the identification of DFV and strategies to support families. Based in Brisbane, with travel across Brisbane North and Brisbane Southwest program locations, you'll be part of the CALD Secondary to Intensive Family Support team and report to the Regional Manager.

You will make an impact by:

  • Routinely conducting risk assessment where domestic and family violence is identified
  • Providing support for adults and children experiencing or at risk of experiencing domestic and family violence
  • Providing mentoring / coaching assistance to the team as required
  • Developing strong networks and referral pathways to support desired outcomes
  • Collecting and recording information for the purpose of accountability, evaluation and reporting

You're experienced in working alongside children and families who have experienced DFV, and you're committed to making a positive impact within the community. Your cultural awareness and knowledge coupled with your understanding of legislation and familiarity with services will see you be aware of issues and identify emerging trends. Your flexibility in your approach will see you meet the diverse needs of the client groups.

This role requires:

  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge, understanding and experience working alongside children and families who have experienced DFV and trauma
  • Cultural awareness and knowledge, including effective communication with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse people and communities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Experience and understanding of the importance of the "early years" and the impact of trauma on child development
  • A Bachelor of Social Work, Psychology or relevant Human Service Qualification and/or significant experience in a similar service
