When disasters strike, children are always the most vulnerable. That's why Save the Children stands ready to deploy, providing immediate psychosocial support and staying as long as it takes to help children and families recover from their losses, restore their lives and build their resilience for years to come. Our newly established Journey of Hope (JoH) program works directly with children in schools, led by facilitators who are professionally trained in managing child trauma.
We're ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children's rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. We run programs in Australia and overseas and, if there's a disaster - like a bushfire, earthquake, drought or conflict - we are there on the ground.
In this full-time (preferably), fixed term position (six months, with potential to extend), you'll work in partnership with a Senior Facilitator to deliver the JoH program at schools and early childhood centres throughout the South Coast of New South Wales. You'll be based in the fire affected communities around the South Coast region, and will report to our Team Leader - Journey of Hope.
Facilitation teams will be required in Batemans Bay, Bega and Ulladulla, though other locations may be added as the program rolls out.
International trainers from the United States will be delivering Journey of Hope training in week commencing March 23rd, while the program itself will commence in Term 2. Ideally, you'd be available for paid training from March 23 - 28, and ready to commence your six month contract by April 20th.
… You respond calmly to crisis situations, and your background is in Early Years, Social Work or a similar field. Your strong interpersonal skills mean you'll work seamlessly in partnership with a Senior Facilitator, and you're committed to high standards of service delivery. You're proactive and creative, and you're comfortable working with children of all ages.
It's the feeling of knowing that your work is contributing to making the world a better place for children and working with others who feel the same. In addition to a connection to social causes, you will have access to:
At Save the Children, we seek a workforce that is as diverse as our society - in race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexuality, cultures and beliefs - and reflects the communities we work in. We believe diversity and inclusion are fundamental to our culture and core values and we demonstrate this commitment through all our employment practices. Our inclusive workplace culture contributes to making Save the Children a great place to work.
Save the Children Australia is a child-safe organisation. All employees are required to undergo a National Police Check, a Working with Children Check where necessary, and sign our Child Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct.
