Working in a team of disruptive publishing professionals using innovative technology you'll take the lead in producing culturally diverse and age appropriate illustrated children's books and educational resources in multiple languages and multiple countries for our class-leading digitally enabled library. No two days will ever be the same as you partner with a global network of creative contributors and our specialist content acquisition team to create digital-first and print-ready content to improve learning outcomes for children around the world. In this unique role you'll also have significant editorial control, be encouraged to take creative risks, question the status-quo and drive innovation to support our mission.

Where you come in:

In this full-time maximum-term role (12 months with the strong possibility of extension) based in your choice of Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne you will join our production team and report to our Production Manager (Publishing). You'll work closely with specialists from our Program Services and Technology departments, and have access to our global contributor community of more than 1,000 creative contributors.

In this transformative role you will make an impact by:

  • Project Managing the publication of new content assets including culturally diverse illustrated children's books and educational resources
  • Commissioning authors, illustrators, designers, translators, editors and proof readers to deliver manuscripts, images, illustrations and design layouts
  • Managing final asset development, warehousing, publication and distribution through the digital workflow and digital warehouse
  • Supporting the distribution of digital and print assets through our global retail and wholesale channels
  • Liaising with a globally dispersed team of content coordinators, suppliers and contractors to support our publishing activities
  • Partnering with our technology and program services teams to support innovation that will maximise our impact around the world

Does this sound like you?

You are an experienced creative or publishing professional who thrives in a highly innovative, agile, fast-paced and high performing environment. You'll be excited by the prospect of taking ownership of a significant pipeline of new content and working with creative contributors around the world to create beautifully illustrated children's books. You'll have the ability to coordinate editorial and design processes and be comfortable working in a flexible and growing team. You'll also have exceptional inter-personal skills, well-developed stakeholder relationship management skills and a flexible communication style including in multilingual environments. You will be able to demonstrate your ability to set and achieve audacious goals and importantly, you'll share our passion for delivering better educational outcomes for children using technology as an enabler.

This role requires:

  • Significant book industry (or similar creative) experience in a variety of areas such as graphic design, printing, editorial, publication standards, or project management
  • Significant experience and success in an editing and/ or publishing role, ideally with a national or international level collection featuring a strong focus on cultural diversity
  • Demonstrated experience supporting the development of complex published materials in a specialised collection environment, responsive to project management principles, measurement frameworks and achieving set performance indicators
  • Demonstrated understanding of diverse publishing formats, including best practice content, layout, accessibility and compliance to legal requirements across print and electronic texts
  • An understanding of extra-textual elements of book publishing, including copyright matters, legal deposit, metadata creation, ISBN reconciliation and marketing support
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the impact potential, and environmental limitations, of book production and distribution (ideally) in low-income environments
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

Position Description - Publishing Coordinator

* While COVID-19 social distancing restrictions are in place, this role works remotely (i.e. from home or an alternative location). Once the pandemic restrictions are lifted, the role will be based in our office in Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne.
