In Hobart, the Multicultural Home to School Participation Project works to support culturally and linguistically diverse children and families to strengthen their engagement with their education. The Project also works with schools to assist them to become more culturally inclusive. In this vital role, you'll use your cultural competency and experience working with CALD families to help children reach their potential and give them a chance to thrive.

Where you come in:

In this part time, fixed term position (3 days per week during school terms, until June 2022, with potential for extension), you'll work with families and staff from a number of schools to increase the engagement of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) children and their families in their school community. Based in Hobart, you'll be part of the Multicultural Programs team and will report to our Team Leader.

You will make an impact by:

  • Developing strategies to increase the involvement of CALD parents/caregivers in their children's education
  • Developing activities to increase family's language, skills and knowledge enabling them to engage with their school environment
  • Monitoring and evaluating programs to ensure best practice
  • Building and maintaining effective networks and relationships with internal and local external stakeholders

You're proactive and professional, with motivation and communication skills which will enhance participation and engagement in the program. Your strong interpersonal skills and cultural awareness will help you effectively engage and network with the local community. Importantly, you have a deep understanding of the challenges that CALD families face, and a passion to work alongside them to drive positive outcomes.

This role requires:

  • Demonstrated experience working with families experiencing disadvantage using a community development approach
  • Demonstrated experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse families
  • Experience working within an education environment
  • Minimum Diploma in an appropriate discipline, or proven experience in a multicultural field
