Save the Children Australia (SCA) is seeking applications for a Principal Adviser, Social Protection to provide technical and strategic advice on existing social protection programs and to support the design and identification of new opportunities. This is a two-year contract (with the possibility of extension) is based in Suva, Fiji. The program will provide tailored assistance to support countries to advocate for, build and strengthen effective, sustainable, gender-responsive and shock responsive social protection systems in our region.

Where you come in:

In this full-time, maximum-term position, based in Suva you will hold overall responsibility for the direction, technical design and coordination of existing social protection programs and emerging opportunities. The role provides technical leadership across project sites in Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Tonga and other Pacific island countries as needed. You will be part of our International Programs team and report to our Head of Partnerships and Technical Services.

You will make an impact by:

  • Providing technical leadership to development and humanitarian social protection programs
  • Providing strategic oversight to program quality and support business development
  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders and governments

Does this sound like you?

You have been the technical led social protection programs; been accountable for technical quality; and provided strategic oversight to program quality through an agreed Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning Framework. Served as the coordination leader and focal point for INGO program partners, as well as national and sub-national Pacific governments. Served as a key liaison point of contact with donors, key private sector partners, local institutions and communities in close coordination with home office and regional leadership.

This role requires:

  • Master's degree in International Development, Social Policy, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related qualification/s
  • 10+ years' work in senior managerial positions in development and/or humanitarian organisations
  • 5+ years' experience managing social protection initiatives in developing countries (Pacific preferred) including staff supervision
  • Proven ability to provide technical leadership and advice to international development and humanitarian programs
  • Proven ability to build strong collaborative networks and influence, externally and internally
  • Experience providing capacity building support to staff and stakeholders
  • Ability to articulate ideas clearly, communicate effectively, and have a strong writing ability in English
  • Cross cultural and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of gender equality and social inclusion.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically, strategically and analyse complex information and offer creative, practical and effective solutions
