Save The Children

Wanted: A dynamic Parenting Support Worker to support families to improve their parenting skills, capacity and effectiveness through the provision of information sessions, group work, formal parenting programs, one -on- one consultations and referrals to specialist agencies within the Perth Metro South East Corridor.

Save the Children is no ordinary not-for-profit.

We're ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children's rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. Across Western Australia, we support families by tackling issues at a community level to help children get the best start in life. See here for more information on our work across WA.

Where you come in:

In this part-time maximum-term position (19 hours per week, to June 2022) based in Armadale, you'll deliver a parenting service to families living in the South-East Corridor in partnership with Communicare Inc. You'll work directly with culturally and linguistically diverse families to support their parenting needs and increase their parenting skills and knowledge. As part of our Perth Metro team, you'll report to our Youth and Family Support Services Team Leader.

You will make an impact by:

  • Supporting parents in their parenting role either individually or in group settings, using partnership, strengths-based and family-centred approaches
  • Facilitating group processes and family-focused events that are welcoming
  • Building and maintaining strong networks and service delivery partnerships for the delivery of group activities and effective referral pathways
  • Providing accessible evidence-based parenting information and education material
  • Collecting and recording data and information for the purpose of accountability, evaluation and reporting requirements

If we could compose the perfect you…

…You have experience working with families from CaLD backgrounds and an understanding of the specific parenting issues they may face. You have demonstrated experience in working alongside families, using a partnership, strengths-based and family centred approach, and you have a solid understanding of the importance of the early years and the impact of parenting styles on child wellbeing. You have a strong understanding of local agencies where you'll refer families who require assistance outside the scope of the service or who require more intensive support.

This role requires:

  • Experience providing parenting support to families from CaLD backgrounds
  • Formal tertiary qualifications in Social Welfare, Community Services, Health or allied areas (Diploma as minimum requirement)
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trust with families and establish community networks
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating group work and workshops
  • Demonstrated cultural competence including the ability to work effectively with bicultural support workers and interpreters

Working at Save the Children is more than just a job.

It's the feeling of knowing that your work is contributing to making the world a better place for children and working with others who feel the same. In addition to a connection to social causes, you will have access to:

  • Award rate salary plus full salary packaging benefits
  • Individual learning plans to assist in your career development
  • Internal employment and development opportunities
  • Friendly and flexible work environment
  • Professional supervision training and monthly supervision sessions
